Loris Karius: 'I haven't really slept since the Champions League final'

Police are investigating death threats made to Liverpool goalkeeper Loris Karius after two of his mistakes played a major part in the English Premier League side's 3-1 Champions League final defeat by Real Madrid.

Just like Jerzy Dudek, the hero in Istanbul in 2005, and Sander Westerveld, a 2001 Uefa Cup victor, a European final may now prove to be the catalyst for a change in goalkeeper at Anfield. "These goals cost us the title, basically". It was an aberration from the Liverpool goalkeeper, to be honest.

"The third goal, the ball had loads of movement on it". 99 times out of 100, Karius would catch that ball without any issue. I mean a deal as in 'look, we'll do you a favour here, but we want first option on Kane in a year or two.' So there's some sort of agreement that they get the first option on Harry Kane. Salah had to go to the hospital after a tackle 30 minutes into the game, prompting many Liverpool fans to say the injury seemed intentional. They had beaten Juventus last season, and city rivals Atletico Madrid in finals in 2014 and 2016.

"The amount of goals he's scored and the trophies he's won - five Champions Leagues, it's unbelievable. Maybe when I was 11 or 12 and we lost the cup final or something".

Our goal was that they be playing meaningful games in March and April, and if they were lucky, they might make the playoffs. He knows the ins and outs of both teams, and has studied all the matchups and trends that will determine the outcome.

Some of the abuse on social media from so-called Liverpool fans though has been, frankly, shameful.

"It's not about him and the mistakes he might have made, it's about the team".

"I think they need to worry about the league first - the league's the most important thing", added the 43-year-old.

"It will hurt for a while but we have to keep going". It was a goal that effectively relegated us and Dorus was in floods of tears after the game in the dressing room. "I am very pleased by the passion that you have always shown me". You just try to console them as much as you can. "We win as a team, we lose as a team".

In the Champions League 2017/18, Real Madrid Superstars Gareth Bale and Cristiano Ronaldo scored their bicycle kick goals in the same minute, only a couple of seconds apart. I thought that was pretty poor to be honest, but emotions were understandably running high.

"When we had him as a 19-year-old kid, he came over, we knew he was wonderful, we knew he had talent", Scholes said of the Portugal forward.

If Loris Karius was ever to do one of those viral videos where celebrities answer the most googled questions about themselves you can be guaranteed that the most popular search term would be 'What was Loris Karius thinking?'

Karius had delivered a similar message after Saturday's game, when he also approached the Liverpool fans in tears, while appearing to apologize.
