Roseanne Barr 'examining options' as she weighs up fightback

"Roseanne's Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have chose to cancel her show", ABC said. No one is defending her comments.

That prompted a swift retort from drugmaker Sanofi, which said: "While all pharmaceutical treatments have side effects, racism is not a known side effect of any Sanofi medication".

President Trump again called on Bob Iger to apologize for its coverage of him, saying that he and ABC had "offended millions of people". "I don't read it", he said of Barr's tweeting.

"Ambien does not induce 'racist tweets, ' " she added, "but it is possible that people could text or tweet while on Ambien and not remember".

Despite vowing to leave Twitter, Barr returned to social media after Tuesday's cancellation to describe her comments as "indefensible", before retweeting several statement in support of her.

The move came after Roseanne Barr tweeted a comment (now deleted) about former president Obama aide Valerie Jarrett.

Law professor F. Jay Doughert says Barr's contract could be terminated because of a so-called "morals clause" that forbids certain kinds of misbehavior from stars.
