President Donald Trump did want to have a glamorous location for the summit, after all - that's probably why Mongolia was out of the race as a viable venue for the meeting.

"We're not going to go in and sign something on June 12th and we never were".

With just one week left until the Singapore summit between President Trump and Kim Jong Un, National Security Adviser John Bolton is being carefully excluded from everything surrounding the event, including last week's visit by Kim Yong Chol. The Shangri-La hotel had always been seen as the likely venue for the summit and had previously hosted former US presidents George H.W. Bush and Barack Obama.

It is not clear exactly where Mr Trump and Mr Kim will stay at the hotel, but previous reports have suggested that the North Korean leader desires a suite and that the USA government may be willing to pay for it.

"He has chosen the route of pursuing denuclearization and a peace treaty through dialogue, and is appointing a new generation of military leaders to set the tone for his vision", Kim Yong Hyun said.

The meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong Un will be the first ever between a sitting United States president and a North Korean leader.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post had earlier reported that North Korea had expressed concerns over a possible coup back in Pyongyang while Kim travels to Singapore-and some saw the moves as meant to consolidate Kim loyalists at the top of the military.

"Congressional support can facilitate better implementation of the agreement and provide more assurance that the USA will continue to abide by it even after administrations change", Davenport said.

The summit was first announced in March, following a strong diplomatic push by South Korean President Moon Jae-in earlier this year. No is in his late thirties, making him only a few years older than Kim Jong Un, himself.

"Meetings to adjust agenda items will likely continue to be held at Panmunjeom or elsewhere until the summit next week", Shin said.

The IAEA team is preparing to resume inspection of nuclear facilities in North Korea and is said to be ready to leave for the country "within weeks".

The US president also claimed the meeting could bring an end to the conflict between North and South Korea.

Trump hopes to secure a nuclear deal with the North Koreans, seeking for Kim to give up his nuclear program, though he stressed last week that the process would likely take longer than a single meeting. South Korean government ministries did not confirm or deny it.

"He's talked about it, but no final trip or plans have been made", he said.

A Seoul government source said, "Right after Foreign Minister Lavrov visited Pyongyang on May 31, North Korean media reported that the two sides agreed to a North-Russia summit".
