Vivo NEX announced with pop-up camera and in-display fingerprint sensor

Previously, there have been numerous leaks and rumors about the smartphone along with speculated features and specifications.

Vivo needs a big win with the Nex handsets, in the face of declining shipments and tough competition. However, the Vivo Nex comes with some pretty unique hardware features that makes it stand out from the rest of the pack.

The NEX S also uses an in-display fingerprint sensor, and the company says that the third-generation screen fingerprint technology, is smaller, and more powerful offering 50% better accuracy and the unlocking speed is increased by 10% compared to the predecessor.

Vivo just rolled out the NEX flagship phone in China.

Vivo officially launches the 2 variants of the Vivo NEX, which features a Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 chipset along with 6GB of RAM as well as 128GB of internal storage for the cheapest variant. The NEX S with 128 GB storage is priced at 4498 yuan ($702 / Rs. 47,375 approx.), 256GB version will cost 4998 yuan ($780 / Rs. 52,640 approx.) and NEX A will cost 3898 yuan (US$ 608 / Rs. 41,055 approx.).

NEX's Ultra FullView™ Display experience comes in the form of a 6.59-inch Super AMOLED display with a 91.24% screen-to-body ratio.

The other model, Nex A, doesn't have this technology - instead, it has a fingerprint sensor on the back of the handset. Vivo Nex S runs on FunTouch OS 4.0 based on Android 8.1 Oreo and it runs on a mammoth 4000 mAh battery. It's not clear if Jovi will be made available out of China. The Vivo Nex uses "screen soundcasting" technology to turn the screen into a speaker. On the back side, there's a dual camera setup which consists of 12-megapixel sensors, primary being a Sony IMX363 sensor with 1.4μm pixels, f/1.8 aperture, and four-axis optical image stabilization and a 5-megapixel secondary sensor.

The Vivo Nex S has all the ports, including the 3.5mm headphone jack on the top and the USB Type-C Port on the bottom.

Meanwhile, that pop-out selfie cam is an 8MP camera with an f/2.0 aperture.

The device also sports the same cameras at the rear, however there is no retractable front camera. It is preloaded with Android 8.1 Oreo that is overlaid with custom user interfaced called Energy UI that is driven by AI. There is a dedicated Jovi AI assistant button. Another major difference is the absence of the under-display fingerprint sensor. It supports several functionalities such as smart map reading, encyclopedia, shopping, translation, scanning, and screen recognition among others.

Vivo has moved the selfie camera and traditional earpiece speaker to different positions.

The pre-orders are starting from June 13, and the device will be available in the offline store from June 23.
