American Patriot Breaks World Record For Hot Dog Eating

Miki won her 5th consecutive title at this year's Nathan's Famous July Fourth Hot Dog Eating Contest - but tells us she doesn't make almost as much money as 11-time men's champ Joey Chestnut.

Last year, Joey Chestnut won the men's competition after scarfing 72 dogs (buns included) in just 10 minutes.

The Las Vegas competitor fell short of the 41 hot dogs she consumed a year ago but still beat out second-place finisher Michelle Lesco, of Tucson, Arizona. Carmon Cincotti was runner up with 63 dogs with Darron Breedon who followed behind with 43.

Over on the women's side, Miki Sudo retained her World Title by downing 37 wieners and buns for an impressive 5th consecutive year.

Aside from receiving a trophy, a bejeweled championship belt and worldwide recognition for their gift of gluttony, there is a cash prize for contestants at the Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest. The under-counted tally was then displayed on live TV.

For the first time in Nathan's Hot Dog Eating Contest Contest History, a mother and daughter competed against each other. Michelle Lesco took second with 28 hot dogs, and Juliet Lee came in third, eating 25 hot dogs.

But just, you know, sometimes you put yourself in a better or winning position, and you don't finish through. Spain's Garbine Muguruza opened her title defence with a 6-2, 7-5 win over British wildcard Naomi Broady .

The Fourth of July event, considered by some to be the Super Bowl of competitive eating, also featured 74-year-old Rich "The Locust" LeFevre - the oldest competitor in the contest's 101-year history.

Sudo downed 41 franks and buns a year ago.

Crowds will flock to Coney Island on Wednesday to watch a time-honored holiday tradition: the Nathan's Famous hot dog eating contest. Sudo has won the last four. Five protesters were taken into custody for questioning and released.
