According to NBC News, Zarutskie was floating in the waters of Staniel Cay in the Bahamas as her boyfriend's dad took some snaps of her and a big ol' group of nurse sharks.

"From my previous knowledge from surfing and scuba diving, I know nurse sharks are usually very safe", she tells the BBC.

A photo she shared on Instagram showed the bite in action. "What happened was an accident, and I don't want to throw the shark under the bus", Zarutske said. The man who owns the marina said nurse sharks are normally docile but said those sharks could have been feeding, so Zarutskie's exposed fingers and limbs might have been tempting. She quickly realized it was best to pull her arm out of the water so blood wouldn't attract more of the creatures, and she was able to get to safety before any more damage was done.
