This past Friday, Papa John's founder John Schnatter accused the pizza chain's former agency of trying to extort him out of $6 million after he used the "n"-word on a conference call with the shop in May".

The board asked for his resignation "without apparently doing any investigation".

He bought three units in a new condominium-and-residence complex in Deer Valley for about $23 million, The Wall Street Journal reported.

Shoppers, meanwhile, have lots of sales to choose from as other retailers offer promotions to try to take a share of the spending. While Amazon is offering price cuts on various items, some of the best deals will be on the brands exclusive to Amazon .

However, Schnatter still remains on the Papa John's (pzza) board.

He is also questioning how the company's board investigated his use of a racial slur.

A Papa John's spokesman did not immediately reply to a request for comment.

The committee of independent directors with the fewest business and personal ties to the onetime chairman was formed to "evaluate and take action with respect to all of the company's relationships and arrangements" with Schnatter, according to the statement. "I agreed, though today I believe it was a mistake to do so", Schnatter wrote. 'I will not allow either my good name or the good name of the company I founded and love to be unfairly tainted'.

The pizza franchise announced in a statement that Schnatter will "cease all media appearances, and not make any further statements to the media regarding the company, its business or employees". During the conference call, the pizza chain founder observed that Colonel Harlan Sanders of Kentucky Fried Chicken fame - who died in 1980 - used the n-word and no one ever came down on him.

A spokeswoman for Laundry Service has previously declined to comment on the Schnatter incident and did not immediately respond to a second inquiry on Tuesday.

Schnatter said the discussion only started when he objected to the agency's suggestion of hiring rapper Kanye West as brand spokesman because West "uses the "N" word in his lyrics". He stepped down as CEO in December after criticizing National Football League players for kneeling during the national anthem, blaming the outcry surrounding their protests for slowing sales growth at Papa John's, at the time an NFL sponsor and advertiser. The source said that other people on the call got offended.
