Amazon faces web issues globally on Prime Day sale

Adobe released numbers on Wednesday suggesting such online sales will reach almost $57.8 billion for the first time this year, and Labor Day will be the first $2 billion ecommerce day in 2018.

"The failure of Amazon's systems and sites is rare: the online behemoth is one of the most advanced digital retailers and is usually able to cope with even extremely high levels of demand", he said.

As previously reported, the e-commerce giant is facing claims of "bait marketing" from local retailers, citing unreasonably short timed-sales, or insufficient stock. It's rather impressive to see Amazon maintain stock on such a wide variety of items for almost the entire duration of the huge shopping event. The heightened attention Prime Day delivers, in particular, has helped entrepreneurs create awareness around their brands and grow their businesses-and the past 36 hours did not disappoint.

The problem is most likely a bug in a software update that should be fixed within hours, said Antony Edwards, chief technology officer at Eggplant, which monitors website performance.

The e-commerce giant extended Prime Day from 36 hours to 30 hours past year, and included many new countries (such as Australia) in 2018. And like many other online shoppers, I immediately ran into technical glitches.

An example of the type of error pages Amazon users experienced while the website was experiencing technical issues Monday afternoon. And all the while the clock was counting down on those timed Lightning Deals.

"Some customers are having difficulty shopping, and we're working to resolve this issue quickly", Amazon said in a statement posted on Twitter at 4:59 p.m.

Amazon announced today that Prime Day 2018 was the biggest sales day for Amazon in the little book shop's history.

Despite that reassurance, there are fears that frustrated bargain shoppers may have grown exhausted of error messages and turned to the "Anti-Prime" sales being offered by the competition instead.

But Amazon touted Prime Day growth and said shoppers still found lots to buy, with tech gadgets in particular among the most popular.
