Council wants to remove President Trump star from Walk of Fame

The city council, however, does not have the power to actually remove the star; that falls on the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce.

West Hollywood's five-member city council passed the measure unanimously on Monday evening.

The Star Wars actor made the suggestion on Twitter after the West Hollywood City Council voted unanimously to permanently remove the President's star from its location. "When one belittles and attacks minorities, immigrants, Muslims, people with disabilities or women - the honour no longer exists". Ultimately, the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce will have the power to decide whether to remove the star.

The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce has never removed a marker from the Walk of Fame and turned down a 2015 request to remove comedian Bill Cosby's star.

Patricia Cox, a witness, told CNN affiliate KCAL/KCBS that she saw a man "going to town" on the ground "like it was his business just to be tearing up the ground", she said. The chamber also backed the decision by claiming that the stars represent the history of the American entertainment industry and hence, shouldn't be removed.

The Trump star has been vandalized numerous times and destroyed twice.

"It's certain that other people will vandalize the star". Is removing Trump's star absolving us of a past when the entertainment world honored someone who even at his best was still a colossal buffoon, and set a precedent for removals of other stars?

According to The Los Angeles Times, the West Hollywood resolution doesn't mention the vandalism as a reason behind the vote.
