CELTIC striker Moussa Dembele has sent and "liked" a series of tweets suggesting he is disappointed his proposed transfer to Lyon has broken down.

Purveyors of all things gallic in the football world, Get French Football have reported that the 22-year-old Frenchman has signed a deal with the Ligue 1 club Lyon that would keep him there for five years, according to their own sources.

The France Under-21 global completed his move to the Groupama Stadium on Friday night for a €22m (£19.7m) fee.

The Dembele saga bookmarked a stormy transfer window for Celtic in which they failed to land John McGinn and Rodgers voiced his frustration at failing to nail down other top targets.

"Every decision we make at Celtic will always be in the best interests of the Club and our supporters". "It has never happened".

"Like I said before the game, the club have had a significant offer, it has been ongoing now for a couple of days and we have taken Moussa out of it".

"The board and myself are united and they have been very supportive to me on this issue".

'Our real focus now turns to Sunday's match and beyond, working with our players here who are committed to doing all they can to ensure another successful season for the club.

"My coaching team and the culture and environment we have created in these last two seasons".

A man, without his word, is nothing.

The Scottish champions announced on Friday night that they had accepted an offer for Dembele.

Rodgers had the following to say in light of Dembele's move back home to France.

"We don't want him to go".

Dembele - who was halfway through a four-year deal - sat out Thursday's Europa League win over Suduva after Lyon's bid emerged.

The club later confirmed they had accepted an offer from Lyon and Rodgers set out their reasons.

But Dembele rejected Celtic's proposal and reiterated his demand to be allowed to move now. The Belgian is now back in the team after missing several games when Rodgers claimed he was fit.

The 21-year-old joined Leicester City earlier this summer for £13m from Dinamo Zagreb.

But he looks like he will have to wait until next season to play in the Premier League with Brendan Rodgers confirming a deal to take him to Parkhead for this season is close.
