President Trump and his administration are buckling in for Hurricane Florence, a Category 4 hurricane expected to slam into the Carolinas by Friday.

Meanwhile, a weakened jet stream means that Florence is more likely to linger in the region, raising the spectre of devastating flooding from as much as 75cm of rain.

Hurricane watches are in place around most of the SC coast, and tropical storm warnings were in effect in southern Virginia.
