The Cleveland Browns on Saturday announced they plan to release the troubled wide receiver, with General Manager John Dorsey saying in a statement, "unfortunately we've reached a point where we feel it's best to part ways and move forward".

Per Mark Kay Cabot, we now have our answer.

Gordon's recently injured hamstring also is an issue, as ESPN's Jordan Zirm reported the receiver injured the hamstring during a promotional shoot Friday night.

This time, with the fans behind us, hopefully we can given them something to support us for the 90 minutes". We will try to set a team up that can win with the tactics, and that's what I have to do.

Gordon, who has a long history of substance abuse and suspensions, missed three weeks of training camp this summer to undergo counseling and treatment, and recently said he was in a good place mentally and physically. After that, he didn't return to the gridiron until 2017. Josh played week 1 in the tie game against the Steelers, making a single catch for a TD.

Gordon was ruled out for the Saints game on Saturday due to a hamstring injury despite no mention of the issue on the injury report during the week.

With his history of substance abuse, Cleveland simply couldn't afford to take any more chances with him.

The team provided no specifics about what prompted their decision to part ways with Gordon. Now, though, he'll be looking for a new home.

Though Gordon is set to be released Monday, there still is a possibility the Browns will be able to trade him.

Even with Gordon's multiple suspensions and missed time rendering him a third-year veteran, he has accrued enough National Football League service to be a free agent then. The move came after Gordon did not report to the Browns' facility on time earlier in the day, according to a report from The Athletic, which cites an unidentified league source.
