Federal Bureau of Investigation interviews second Kavanaugh accuser

Trump ordered the investigation on Friday into the sexual assault allegations against Kavanaugh following a request by Senate Republicans, a striking turnabout for a nominee the party had hoped to power through the chamber and onto the nation's top court by early this week.

The woman, Deborah Ramirez, has agreed to cooperate with the FBI investigation, according to a statement issued by her attorney, John Clune.

"White House spokesman Raj Shah said the Senate set the scope and duration of the investigation and that the White House is letting the FBI agents do what they are trained to do".

The background check is the latest twist in a drama that has gripped the Capitol for the past two weeks, since a Northern California research psychologist named Christine Blasey Ford alleged that a young Mr. Kavanaugh attempted to rape her at a house party when they were teenagers.

Following Ford's testimony, Kavanaugh vigorously denied the allegations before the committee and accused Democrats of launching a last-minute attempt to derail his nomination.

The White House said Sunday that it would not "micromanage" the new FBI investigation into Supreme Court Justice nominee Judge Brett Kavanaugh.

Markets to Elon Musk: Stop messing around and settle with SEC
Shares plummeted 13% as investors and Wall Street analysts dove into what the suit might mean for the electric-car maker. But Musk's future at the helm of the electric vehicle company was thrown into question when the SEC sued him on Thursday.

"I join the American Bar Association in calling for an additional investigation into allegations made against Judge Kavanaugh", the statement reads.

On Thursday, Blasey Ford testified to Congress that an intoxicated Kavanaugh pushed her down on a bed, groped her, tried to remove her clothing and held his hand over her mouth when she tried to scream for help. The judge sailed through confirmation hearings earlier this month before facing a barrage of allegations, none which have yet been corroborated by evidence or witnesses.

The FBI declined to comment to NBC about its report.

"I've never known McConnell to be anything other than candid and honest", said Jennings, who did not have direct knowledge of the conversations with the White House. They have free rein.

Separately on Saturday, Whitehouse, a Democrat, said he expects the FBI would provide adequate staffing for Kavanaugh's background investigation, with teams working in parallel to investigate separate allegations.

Senate Hearing With Brett Kavanaugh And Christine Blasey Ford Begins
In early July 2018, Ford said, she saw press reports of Kavanaugh shortlisted for potential Supreme Court nominees. Ford also during her sworn testimony that she was "100 percent" certain that it was Kavanaugh who attacked her.

"I don't think there's ever been any person who's been under scrutiny like he has".

Conway and press secretary Sarah Sanders, who appeared on Fox News Sunday, both insisted the White House was not micro-managing the investigation. Specifically, the original report was that no interviews were to be take from the third accuser, Julie Swetnick, who alleges that Kavanaugh was part of a gang rape ring in high school. "He's a great judge", Trump said.

Kavanaugh now faces several accusers who claim the judge sexually harassed or assaulted them.

Grassley then reminded Sanders that all senators have had access to 307 Kavanaugh court decisions, over 500,000 documents, over 40 hours of live testimony, and "more answers to written questions than every prior Supreme Court nominee combined". "I categorically deny them".

But the White House made clear there would be limits to the probe. He noted that since his nomination he has been interviewed by the Federal Bureau of Investigation and had his background checked "directly with the Senate". "In fact, the only witnesses identified by Dr. Ford denied the event actually occurred".
