The rally, organized by Women's March Chicago, was created to spotlight the power and determination of women voters ahead of the crucial November 6 midterm elections, which will determine control of the US Congress.

Democratic Senators on Thursday agreed to confirm 15 of President Donald Trump's federal judge picks so they can return to their home states to campaign. "They need to get out", said Sieracki. Some were encouraged to head to early voting locations nearby to cast ballots.

While Democrats continue to see strong odds of recapturing control of the House and gaining governorships, Republicans will likely hold on to the Senate, riding a wave of enthusiasm following the confirmation of Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.

Similar marches are scheduled later this month in other states, including the Republican strongholds of Texas, Georgia and SC. None of us should be surprised that Republicans - who referred to female sex-crime survivors as a "mob" and mocked Ford - would discount the reaction of women. Which leads me to wonder, how many others - those vowing not to visit Maine this year, or buy from L.L. Bean, for example, thereby attempting to claim the moral high ground - live in states where one or both senators supported the Ka- vanaugh confirmation?

Nationally, each party was active in roughly the same number of congressional races - the Democrats in 112, the Republicans in 103, according to the data.
