Texas authorities try to find woman who left boy on doorstep

The video shows the unnamed friend rush up to the doorstep carrying the child by his arm. She's holding a couple of bags in her other hand.

The woman knocks on the door before running from the scene to her auto.

While the boy looked around, the woman ran to a vehicle and drove away.

For Immediate Release October 18, 2018MCTXSheriff Investigates Abandoned Child On October 17, 2018, at about 8:20 pm, Deputies with the Montgomery County Sheriff's Office were dispatched a residence in the 30700 block of Legends Ridge Drive, Spring, Texas in reference to a located person.

Then, that night, the friend dropped the boy off at the wrong home, Spencer said.

Spencer says authorities have identified the woman in the video and that an investigation is underway, though she hasn't been charged. He confirmed the child in the video is Prince Simmons, ABC7 reported.

The resident of the home called 911. CPS officials have since reunited Simmons with his family.

Spencer said investigators will soon be interviewing the woman who dropped the child off to determine why she ran from the house and failed to confirm an adult was home. The entire interaction lasts only 23 seconds. The child is now in the care of Child Protective Services as authorities try to find his family.

The child is uninjured and appears to be in good health. That's when the dad recognized the boy as his own son, Spencer said. He said they don't believe she is "on the run" but they are still trying to get in contact with her. The father told detectives that when the child hadn't arrived in the afternoon, he assumed plans changed and left for the evening. She faces a child abandonment charge, which is a third-degree felony. She also has several tattoos on her right arm.

The boy has been placed with a foster family as Child Protective Services work to reunite him with his family, Spencer said.
