Even as stock markets sank again, one person (or group) made a lot of money this past week: the yet-to-be-identified holder of the single ticket that won the Mega Millions lottery.

New Jersey man Earl Livingston, 87, was walking to buy a ticket for this week's Mega Millions jackpot when he fell and broke his hip, WCAU-TV reports.

The Mega Millions jackpot had reached $1.5 billion when Kelley Brooks' husband texted her, reminding her to get a ticket for that night's drawing. But at Jefferson Stratford Hospital, he was invited to join the hospital staff's lottery pool.

Livingston's niece, Bobbie Mickle, told the station that at first she didn't believe him.

Livingston will need a hip replacement, but he says he's thankful. "I thought he was confused, maybe from pain meds". They brought a tray of snacks for the staff to show their appreciation.
