According to Guardian, winners of seats in the House include Latina congresswomen from Texas, the Democrats' Veronica Escobar and Sylvia Garcia, while Ilhan Omar of Minnesota and Rashida Tlaib of MI will be the first Muslim congresswomen.

Tlaib won Michigan's 13th district, running unopposed.

"I stand here before you tonight as your congresswoman-elect with many firsts behind my name", she said amid cheers.

The 42-year-old Tlaib is a Palestinian-American.

She is not only the second Muslim women elected in Congress but also the first Somali-American.

Rashida is also the first Palestinian-American woman in Congress.

"I have proven myself to be someone who shows up, takes on the hard fight and delivers, and I am ready to do that for the people of the 5th Congressional District", stated Ilhan after winning in the primaries.

She has said she would vote to impeach President Donald Trump if given the chance.

Tlaib's relatives in the West Bank village of Beit Ur Al-Fauqa greeted the news of her election with a mixture of pride and hope that she would be able to take on a United States administration widely seen as hostile to Muslims and the Palestinian cause.

When the new Congress convenes in January 2019, for the first time it will have at least one Muslim woman among its ranks.
