Nishikori will join Novak Djokovic, Roger Federer, Alexander Zverev, Kevin Anderson, Marin Cilic and Dominic Thiem at the eight-player event with Nadal's replacement still to be confirmed.

He could yet take part at the ATP Tour Finals in London after earning a spot as the second alternate for the season-ending event.

"It was a complicated year, very good at the tennis level when I was able to play and at the same time very bad as far as injuries are concerned", Nadal said.

"Unfortunately I had the abdominal problem in Paris last week and I also have a free body in the ankle joint that has to be removed in the operating room today", Nadal wrote in a series of messages on his Twitter page.

"Reflecting on what I've been through in the past year, it's quite a phenomenal achievement", said Djokovic, who has knocked Rafael Nadal from the world top spot.

Jurgen Klopp praises Unai Emery for proving himself to Arsenal fans
Last season Arsenal , under Arsene Wenger, took just six points from matches against other members of the "Big Six". The two clash at the Emirates on December 17 and face off in the Premier League little over a fortnight before.

"Reflecting on what I've been through in the a year ago, it's quite a phenomenal achievement", said Djokovic.

The Spaniard's exit means John Isner will make his London debut.

Nadal withdrew from last month's Paris Masters with an abdominal muscle injury, meaning Novak Djokovic replaced him as world number one.

"I'm very, very happy and proud about it".

"With this, I hope to be in full health for the next season".

Iran Sanctions Kick in Monday
Hardliners hold protests to commemorate the siege every year but on Sunday, protestors also vented their fury about the sanctions. Two of the countries have agreed to reduce imports to zero while six others "will import at greatly reduced levels", Pompeo said.

Djokovic, 31, underwent elbow surgery in January and slipped to 22nd in the world after a depressing quarter-final exit at Roland Garros in June, which left him briefly threatening to skip Wimbledon.

Nadal hasn't competed since he retired from his U.S. Open semifinal because of a painful right knee.

He was dumped out of the French Open as the 20th seed at the quarterfinal stage before embarking on a fine run.

Russian-Armenian tennis player Karen Khachanov scored a major upset victory over Serbia's Novak Djokovic to win the Paris Masters men's tennis title, calling it the "biggest achievement" of his career.
