YouTube is starting to provide movies for free

One is this: You can now watch Rocky on YouTube with little to no hassle. Films like Legally Blonde, The Terminator, Rocky, Hackers, and All Dogs Go to Heaven are listed on the page with a "Free with Ads" tag displayed under the title.

First noticed by, YouTube began launching ad-supported Hollywood films under a section on its Movies & Shows vertical.

The library appears to available only in the United States for now, and is different from the YouTube original content films that the streaming website includes with a YouTube Premium subscription, previously named YouTube Red. The revenue generated will be split with the movie studios who agree to allow their movies to be offered using this free format.

Viewers may have a hard time finding these free movies on their own, though, as there's no mention of them on YouTube's homepage. They appear directly under the collection of recently released films and TV shows that YouTube now offers for rent and sale. YouTube's director of product management, Rohit Dhawan, says that eventually there could be a way for advertisers to pay to sponsor movies, but it's unclear exactly how that will work at this time.
