Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is Fastest-Selling Switch Game in U.S.

The big picture: Nintendo's Switch has smashed even the most optimistic of expectations in its first 21 months on the market thanks in part to a solid selection of franchise favorites like Mario, Super Smash Bros. and Zelda.

We are thrilled to see such a strong reaction from consumers in the second holiday season for Nintendo Switch.

Prior to launch, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate game, other recently released games that continue to make a splash include Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Pokémon: Let's Go, Eevee!, which together total 2 million units, and Super Mario Party at 1.4 million.

Earlier today, it's been confirmed through data provided by The NPD Group that the Nintendo Switch is the fastest-selling console of the current generation in the US.

It's also the fast-selling game in the 19-year-old Smash series, according to USA sales data that Nintendo released Tuesday. That should come as a surprise to no one, though - Smash Bros 4 and Brawl were among the top-selling titles on each of the last three Nintendo consoles. "We're looking forward to delivering more excitement and smiles to our fans in the coming year and beyond". In its first 21 months of availability, Nintendo has sold more than 8.7 million systems in the U.S., outpacing all other current-gen systems through the same point in their life cycles.

These Switch sales numbers are specific to the United States. Super Mario Odyssey has sold over 4.7 million units.
