According to NPR, George W. Bush's National Security Council member, Kori Schake, said that it was significant that Trump didn't meet with leadership within the country while visiting US troops. "You've had enough time", he said he told the top brass. We want to keep our journalism open and accessible and be able to keep providing you with news and analyses from the frontlines of Israel, the Middle East and the Jewish World. We give Israel 4.5 billion a year. While 5,000 United States troops are now there, lawmakers from both sides of the aisle demanded that they leave on the grounds that his spontaneous appearance was arrogant and violated their nation's sovereignty, according to the Associated Press.

Trump´s troop drawdowns - and the abrupt way that they were announced - helped trigger the resignation of his defence secretary, Jim Mattis, who has been one of the administration´s heavyweights. It's not entirely clear when Trump planned the visit, whether he chose to go after the decision to leave Syria on December 19, or before.

Wednesday also marked the fifth day of a government shutdown over a budget dispute between Trump and congressional Democrats.

During a speech to troops at Al Asad base, he said that unlike in Syria, he had no plans to bring home the roughly 5,000 troops stationed in Iraq. "If I will say this, if you take ISIS and if we see something happening with ISIS that we don't like, we can hit them so fast and so hard, they won't, they really won't know what the hell happened", he said.

Trump Put U.S. Troops in ‘Very Bad Position’
Trump landed at an airbase west of Baghdad after dark Wednesday, leaving behind a government shutdown and other upheaval at home. For the visit, which was unscheduled, Melania broke first lady precedent by travelling to an active combat zone.

Trump has also wanted to end protracted USA involvement in overseas conflicts, and to force allies to pay more for the costs that he says fall disproportionately on American taxpayers, a point he made again on Wednesday.

President Donald Trump and his wife Melania have greeted USA troops in Germany, his second visit to troops overseas in the past day.

Lawmakers decried the visit as arrogant and a violation of Iraqi sovereignty.

Trump has previously said he had a legitimate bone-spur diagnosis, though he has never provided any documentation.

United had renewed energy on Saturday though, and Solskjaer was pleased with how the players implemented his ideas. The Portuguese gaffer was replaced by former Red Devils player, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer .

Relations between the USA and Iraq also extend beyond military ties. This is a Rubicon moment for the US President.

"We're no longer the suckers, folks", he said.

Iraqi officials said a planned meeting on Wednesday between Trump and Iraqi Prime Minister Adel Abdul Mahdi was cancelled due to a disagreement over where it should take place. Trump has said IS militants have been eradicated, but the latest estimate is that IS still holds about 60 square miles (100 square km) of territory in that region of Syria, although fighters also fled the area and are in hiding in other pockets of the country.

Trump's decision comes one week after pulling troops from Afghanistan and Syria.

Christmas Day is the calm before the storm as rain moves in
Expect Thursday to be partly sunny with a slight chance of showers, and a mix of rain and snow is possible Friday . Most Canadians won't be getting a white Christmas this year, The Weather Network forecasts.

Meanwhile, on Thursday, an explosion was reportedly heard in Baghdad's Green Zone, where the US Embassy and many other foreign diplomatic missions are located. This will encourage Russia, Turkey and Iran to continue to pursue their agendas in Syria and perhaps to leverage anger in Iraq over Trump's visit to pressure the USA in Baghdad as well.
