Gustavo Perez Arriaga, a 32-year-old undocumented immigrant, was charged with homicide in connection with the shooting death of 33-year-old Newman police officer Ronil Singh, according to law enforcement.

"Please, bear with me".

At the press conference, Christianson introduced Singh's tearful brother Reggie Singh, who expressed gratitude to law enforcement for dedicating themselves to finding his older brother's killer.

"Either we build (finish) the Wall or we close the Border", he said. While the Stanislaus Police Department released photos of the suspect, they would not confirm his name and birth date. Seven people, including Arriaga's two brothers and his girlfriend, were also arrested on suspicion of either misleading authorities about Arriaga's whereabouts or aiding him in evading authorities, police officials said. Arriaga was arrested Friday in Bakersfield, California, 200 miles south of where the alleged crime took place.

"We will find him, we will arrest him and we will bring him to justice", the sheriff said.

Arriaga, a farm laborer who had been in the United States for a number of years after illegally crossing the border into Arizona, had prior arrests for driving under the influence, Christianson said. "He is a criminal", Christianson said Thursday.

Police also arrested two accomplices who allegedly assisted Arriaga after he fled the scene of the shooting - his brother, Adrian Virgen, 25, and a co-worker, Erik Razo Quiroz, 35.

"That was his goal, to get across the border", he said.

Singh had stopped a suspected drunken driver in the town of Newman when he was fatally wounded and managed to fire back but didn't hit his attacker, authorities have said. State law "fully permits the sharing of information on risky gang members", Brown's spokesman Evan Westrup said in an email on Friday. Cervantes was arrested in in Turlock, and Virgen Mendoza was arrested in Livermore. "Illegal immigration doesn't serve our communities, especially criminals who victimize and exploit our communities", Christianson told Fox.

On Saturday, law enforcement officers from throughout California and across the nation are expected to attend Singh's funeral at 10 a.m. PST at the CrossPoint Community Church in Modesto.

His spokesman said Friday that if the suspect was a known gang member, police could have provided that information to federal authorities. "I am suggesting that the outcome could have been different if law enforcement wasn't restricted, prohibited or had their hands tied because of political interference".
