6 people injured at BWI Airport from partial jet bridge collapse

Worldwide airport Baltimore-Washington (Maryland) on Saturday evening struck the jet bridge.

Southwest Airlines Flight 822 arrived at BWI from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic at 7.47pm (local time) with a request that paramedics meet the flight, the airline said in a statement.

Six were taken to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries, according to BWI spokesman Jonathan Dean.

Treated were four medics, two Southwest Airlines employees and the sick passenger, FAA said in an email to WTOP.

Six people were injured Saturday night after a jet bridge collapsed while evacuating a passenger who had gotten ill on the flight.

The statement says 33 jet bridges made by the manufacturer were inspected and deemed safe to use. BWI Fire and Rescue crews responded along with mutual aid.

The jet bridge failure at BWI Airport is "under investigation", according to another tweet from the airport.

"Our passengers' safety is the top priority and BWI Marshall Airport has moved quickly to address this issue", Rahn said.

The airport is situated 9 miles south of downtown Baltimore and is around 30 miles away from Washington.
