Global warming hasn't gone away despite cold

"Please come back fast, we need you".

Trump's tweet feels particular poorly timed as Australia and New Zealand struggle with a record-breaking heatwave.

The Midwestern United States is now enduring life-threatening cold temperatures-which these days all but ensures, as so many climate reporters and experts anticipated, an ignorant and even infuriating tweet from President Donald Trump conflating weather and climate.

This week, a split polar vortex is expected to drop temperatures in the Midwest near negative 30 degrees, with the wind chill looking to be the lowest it's been in two decades: as low as negative 60 degrees. "In coming days, expected to get even colder", Trump wrote on Twitter Monday night.

Some accumulations of snow are expected, while there will be widespread frost at night with icy stretches on untreated surfaces. The Met Office warned of possible disruption including delays on roads, stranded vehicles and cancelled rail and air travel.

President Donald Trump is wondering what happened to global warming since right now it is cold in the "beautiful Midwest". "People can't last outside even for minutes". Numerous states that are likely to see disproportionately negative effects in the coming years are some that supported Mr. Trump in 2016, like Florida and Texas, as well as others in the Southeast, which may sustain increased coastal damage because of more powerful storms, according to a new report by the Brookings Institute.

The Democrat responded by saying: "Only a moron would not understand global warming causes huge temperature swings".

"I think something's happening". That's because Trump is conflating weather and climate.

The fact we are seeing record cold does not contradict climate research.

Canada to host regional leaders for Venezuela crisis talks
The U.S. administration reiterated that threat Monday in announcing sweeping sanctions against Venezuela's state oil company. But Pompeo warned Maduro not to "test the United States on our resolve to protect our people".

Temperatures are expected to rise into the 40s and 50s throughout the Midwest over the weekend, the Weather Channel said.

"With the blast of severe winter weather affecting the USA, we often get asked about the relationship between cold weather and climate change", Allen said. The president's latest tweet about global warming was widely mocked, with his own federal agency refuting his claims.

The study's authors point out that while climate change is a major issue for people in blue states, the heaviest toll will be paid by people in red states, which the authors argue could be used to broker political compromise.

Parts of the United States are indeed facing some of the coldest temperatures the country's seen in a generation.
