The news echoes a previous report from a January meeting of a group of TV networks in France that suggested the first two episodes of the final season would an hour each - and also predicted the last four episodes would be 80 minutes each.

Our anticipation for the final season has reached fever pitch.

Now initially I felt this could not be right as I have never seen any Game of Thrones season yet have such tight runtimes rounded up like that.

HBO has now revealed how long each episode will be, the first episode which will be shown on the 14th of April will be 54 minutes long.

Total, the runtimes equal six hours and 50 minutes, which Newsweek pointed out is still shorter than the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Though the first two installments are coming in under 60 minutes (and certainly aren't the movie-length episodes that were hinted at a year and a half ago), fans can rest easy knowing that the action and drama featured in each will be oh-so satisfying. People have come up with so many fan theories about how it's going to end, and who will end up where, and who will end up with who.
