Canada Bans Boeing 737 MAX Models From Airspace

All Boeing 737 Max-8 and 9 planes will continue to be grounded until May after the catastrophic Ethiopian Airlines crash, the US Federal Aviation Administration said.

Quoted in local media reports, Nimalsiri said that Sri Lanka was monitoring the situation closely but no such aircraft was overflying or landing in Sri Lanka at the moment.

When the Boeing aircraft were grounded, Southwest only had three Max 8 planes flying in and out of the Fort Lauderdale airport, a small fraction of its regular flight schedule.

"The information has to do with satellite tracking data that is collected when certain aircraft take off and it provides an indication of what their course is, but also their vertical profile and any fluctuations in that vertical profile", the minister said.

On Sunday an Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 MAX 8 went down minutes into a flight to Nairobi, killing all 157 people on board.

Southwest and American Airlines are the USA carriers using the most 737 Max jets, but the beleaguered aircraft are less than 5 percent of the fleet for each company.

Last October, Indonesia's Lion Air Flight 610 crashed into the ocean 13 minutes after taking off from the Indonesian capital, Jakarta. But the USA regulator says it is safe to fly.

The US-based Boeing has said it has no reason to pull the popular aircraft from the skies and does not intend to issue new recommendations about the aircraft to customers.

PGV's Executive Director Bill Hopper says American Airlines has 24 Max Eights and the airline is working with passengers who may be affected while flights are grounded. "We are going to go rent a vehicle and drive to Orlando", Olivia Crumbley said.

The 737 MAX 8 makes up less than 10 per cent of the low-priced airline's fleet.

SpiceJet on Wednesday cancelled 14 flights after the DGCA issued an order to ground all Boeing 737-MAX planes and banned the planes from the Indian airspace from 4pm onwards till further decision.
