Mack, who appeared Monday at the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District, in Brooklyn, previously pleaded not guilty on charges including sex trafficking and conspiracy to commit sex trafficking and forced labor.

After meeting Raniere, she joined the group, and reportedly rose to lead the arm Dominus Obsequious Sororium, which is Latin for 'Master Over Slave Women.' As the second most senior member, Mack became responsible for recruiting and monitoring slaves - and even she wasn't exempt from some rules. "I have come to the conclusion that I must take full responsibility for my conduct and that's why I am pleading guilty today", Mack said in court, according to the New York Post.

The charge sprung from a group called NXIVM, of which members allegedly recruited sex slaves for its spiritual leader.

With jury selection beginning at the federal case against a cult-like upstate NY group, TV actress Allison Mack pleaded guilty Monday to charges she manipulated women into becoming sex slaves for the group's spiritual leader.

Marzulli and Mack's attorneys did not respond to CNN's questions regarding whether Mack's plea was entered as part of a deal with prosecutors.

"I know that I am and will be a better person because of this", she promised. She allegedly helped recruit sex slaves. The Justice Department began a federal investigation of NXIVM in 2017 when former member Sarah Edmondson filed a complaint, saying she was branded with Raniere's initials, "KR". It is unknown at this time whether Mack had agreed to a cooperation agreement in exchange for her plea.

Raniere, Mack, and four others were arrested a year ago for the involvement with NXIVM, a Colonie, N.Y. -based group that claimed to be a self-help organization.

Mack faces a maximum of 40 years in prison - 20 years on each count.
