More than $436K raised for boy thrown from Mall of America balcony

A man at the Mall of American in Minnesota apparently threw a 5-year-old boy over the third floor railing, and so far no one knows why.

A five-year-old boy is fighting for his life after being thrown off a third-floor shopping centre balcony by a stranger.

Friends of the family have started a crowdfunding effort to help with medical bills.

On Friday morning, Landen was thrown was grabbed and thrown almost 400 feet from the balcony onto the mall's tile flooring.

Jeff Potts, the police chief for Bloomington Police Department said: "First of all, most importantly, the child that fell is still alive".

Aranda was charged with attempted homicide and is now being held at the Bloomington Police Department.

He was accused three months later of throwing glasses of ice water and tea at a woman in a restaurant at the mall after she refused to buy him food, the records show.

According to police, the suspect is cooperating and attempted homicide charges against Aranda are expected to be filed on Monday. Police say the suspect, Emmanuel Aranda, 24, is cooperating. Police did say that the victim and his family are from the Twin Cities area.

Landen Hoffmann fell nearly 12 metres at the Mall of America near Minneapolis in the USA on Friday and suffered life-threatening injuries. He said the suspect was located at the transit station just outside of the Mall of America. Both parents were at his bedside in the hospital, Potts said.

Police confirmed that there is video of the incident but said it will not be released until the investigation is complete.

Court records show that Aranda has a history of convictions for misdemeanor offenses. Police learned at that time he had an existing trespass notice prohibiting him from the Mall until July of 2016.
